What this duty is
Typical units are feed/effluent interchangers, reactor-loop recuperators, and process-to-process exchangers. Both sides are process fluids, so materials, fouling and pressure drop on both circuits matter equally. Close temperature approaches are common and drive area and shell arrangement (including series shells).
Where it is used
- Reactor feed/effluent interchangers
- Distillation feed preheat against bottoms or overhead condensate
- Waste-heat recovery into boiler feed or process water when specified as a process exchanger
- Multi-stream trains where several exchangers share a heat-and-material balance

Engineering selection
- Both streams must be fully specified. Missing one side makes the duty indeterminate.
- A temperature cross may require multiple shells in series or an F-shell. Confirm at enquiry — do not assume a single E-shell.
- Fouling on either side reduces recovered duty. State plant fouling factors or licensor values.
- Ohm manufactures the exchanger. Process energy-savings claims belong to the plant heat-and-material balance, not to a marketing percentage.

What to send with the RFQ
- Hot and cold stream identities, flows, inlets and target outlets
- Whether a temperature cross is expected
- Fouling factors and allowable ΔP on both sides
- Materials for each circuit

FAQ
- What heat exchanger types does Ohm use for heat recovery?
- Configuration follows the duty. Typical starting points are Shell & Tube, U-Tube, Double-Pipe. Send process data — we do not pick a catalogue SKU first.
- What information do you need to quote this duty?
